We currently have an exciting new specialist post to work within Glasgow feeder HMPs, providing support to people returning to Glasgow following a custodial sentence or period of remand, linking Prison Health Care with Community Care, Treatment and Recovery and providing support in the community setting following liberation.
This is a pilot project working in partnership with North West, North East and South Glasgow ADRS, Glasgow ADP and Prison Healthcare. Recognising the vulnerability of individuals on release from prison the key aim of this project is to ensure links are in place between prison healthcare and community care, treatment and recovery. The successful applicant will also be expected to work with the Scottish Recovery Consortium’s Prisons and Healthcare Recovery Officer (National)
The service will provide practical and strength based individual work with people during their sentence or period of remand and actively support individuals to access support services within the relevant community to which they are returning. The service will continue to provide support following liberation within the community settings. The service will also work in partnership with services and providers across Glasgow to ensure the wellbeing and life chances of vulnerable people are improved.
Support will be person centred, strength based and trauma informed. Connections with family will also be encouraged.
In addition, the Recovery Coordinator will build on the multiple connections with recovery communities, service user groups and other support networks across Glasgow to ensure that the well being and life chances of vulnerable people are improved.
What we’re looking for
The successful candidate will need to be calm, confident and well organised with experience of working with substance misuse service users in a health, social care, prison or criminal justice setting.
We are keen to hear from people who have a lived history of drug and alcohol use and/or the prison environment.
He/she will also have strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a team player in a collaborative and supportive manner. He/she will be someone who thrives under pressure, with good time management and prioritisation skills.
Extensive knowledge of community support services, relevant to this work across Glasgow, would be a distinct advantage.
Candidates must have a Level 3 SVQ in Social Services and Health Care, Community Development or an equivalent level qualification and be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
As this work will involve travel across Glasgow and to Glasgow feeder HMPs the successful candidates must have a full, clean UK driving licence and have use of their own car.

This post is considered to be regulated work with protected adults and children as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) (PVG) Act 2007. Accordingly you will be required to become a member of the PVG scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update if already a member.
In addition, you will be required to undergo a prison clearance check.
Successful completion of both of these checks will have to be in place prior to any formal offer of employment being made. We will also seek references from your current employer as part of the selection process.
This a fixed term role for 2 years, approximately to the end of December 2022. The role is for 37.5 hours per week worked mostly Monday to Friday however there should be flexibility to work evenings and weekends if required.
